Estate village erected for the workers at the Port Sunlight factory of Lever Brothers in the late nineteenth century and the first decade of the twentieth. Bromborough, an estate village for the workers at Price’s candle factory, is nearby.

Summer Meeting: Warwick
Town rebuilt in brick and stone after 1694 fire; buildings for Warwick School; 1894 Arts-and-Crafts-inspired school building; 1890s coffee tavern with terracotta ornament; early gas retort house; 1850s buildings of Staffordshire blue bricks including former prison governor’s house and upmarket houses in Coten End. Surviving workhouse, now hospital.

A visit to the William Blythe Tile Works at Barton-on-Humber, for the opportunity to see at first hand the traditional skills and heritage of roof tiles and pottery still at work in the twenty-first century. Following this visit a representative of the Barton-on-Humber Civic Society will lead a walking tour of Barton, together with a visit to the Baysgarth Museum.
